13 week ultrasound

This week was tough just because we saw the genetic counselor. I wanted to know what the odds were that our baby could still have cystic fibrosis. And it is about 1/1000 chances that our baby could still have cystic fibrosis, even though Rick was negative. There are about 1200 different gene sequences for cystic fibrosis. Rick and I were only tested for 30, so unless we do an entire gene sequencing on Rick ($1500) we will never really know. But the odds are in our favor!

The first picture you can see the nose and it looks like my nose, too cute! The bottom picture the baby is actually sucking its thumb! I can’t get enough!!!! I’m in LOVE!

13 weeks

How far along?  13 weeks
Total weight gain/measurements: Have remained minus 7 lbs. But I have a feeling that since I have moved into my second trimester, it might begin changing.
Maternity clothes: Okaaay, so I went a little crazy and bought a bunch more maternity skirts and dresses. Your MOM likes to shop. I really just don’t want to be to hot/uncomfortable during the summer months.
Sleep: Still like to sleep, I think that I always will.
Best moment this week: This week we met with a genetic counselor. We discussed the odds of our baby having cystic fibrosis. The odds are completely in our favor at 1/1000. This is due mostly because there are over 1200 cystic fibrosis gene combinations. Rick and I were only tested for 30 of the most common. I was positive and Rick was not. But that doesn’t mean he was cleared for all of the 1200 possibilities. Which means Rick could still be a carry and that means the baby could still have it. That makes me so so sad. I cried while talking to the genetic counselor. As a mother it is your job to protect the baby and I just want everything to be perfect for my little one. During this appointment we also had an ultrasound to measure the fluid filled structure in the back of the baby’s neck called nucal translucency. It’s an indicator for down’s syndrome baby. Our baby was completely normal….yay! Rick and I will just have to hope and pray everything else it good!
Miss anything? Not this week.
Movement: Not sure….I feel like I have felt some flutters in my stomach but can’t be sure it isn’t bowel moving around. Time will tell:)
Food cravings: Didn’t really have any cravings this week.
Anything making you queasy or sick? No.
Gender: unknown, but I think its a boy.
Labor signs: None.
Symptoms: Still very bloated…can’t tell if I am showing a little bit or its just bloating?
Belly button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or moody most of the time: Happy, can’t believe that the first trimester is down…two more to go. I hear the second trimester is the best. Looking forward to it!
Looking forward to: Finding out the sex. I have the ability to scan myself at work. Whenever I get the chance I can’t help but take a quick look to see if I can tell.

12 weeks

How far along?  12 weeks
Total weight gain/measurements: Total of 7 pounds lost. Didn’t loose any weight this week which is fine. I expected it to stop at some point. Still trying to stay active by walking 30 minutes and lifting some free weights. I should get back to the gym since I am paying for a membership:)
Maternity clothes: I have accepted that maternity clothes are inevitable. They are starting to become something that I enjoy wearing because they are so comfortable.
Sleep: Getting more and more energy back. Still sleepy at times but it seems like its getting less.
Best moment this week: Since we made it to 12 weeks we decided that it was time to announce our pregnancy to Facebook. Rick and I had a hard time deciding on how to announce it. I wanted to blow balloons up with one balloon saying ‘Expected to POP’ and the other saying ‘October 2016’. We attempted this but it looked to amateurish to us. Rick wanted us to be sitting at our kitchen table with a pizza, chips and water in front of me and beer wine in front of Rick. Above me in the picture it would say ‘Eating for two’ and above Rick it would say ‘Drinking for two’. It just didn’t work out. So we decided on this which I
LOVE how it turned out.

Miss anything? We went out to eat with some friends for dinner and drinks. For me minus the drinks…I have discovered moc-tails, which will have to do the trick;)
Movement: Nothing yet.
Food cravings: This week was cheetos, again and root beer! Its kinda like beer, haha.
Anything making you queasy or sick? Nope felt great all week.
Gender: unknown, but I think its a boy…Ramzi method.
Labor signs: None.
Symptoms: I have determined that I am showing a little bump, so exciting!
Belly button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or moody most of the time: Happy most of the time, but Rick does like to push my buttons. I feel like I am more sensitive to it so I need to remember that. I love him still for putting up with me <3.
Looking forward to: Moving on to my second trimester and watching the baby grow. We are also getting a nuchal translucency ultrasound on Tuesday March 22nd 2016 to measure the thickness behind the babies neck. It is a precursor to downs syndrome. We are also thinking of doing a blood test called the harmony test. It is a very accurate test for most genetic issues.

11 weeks

How far along?  11 weeks
Total weight gain/measurements: minus another pound. Total of 7 pounds lost, not sure why…I have recently been walking 30 min each night but my diet really hasn’t changed.
Maternity clothes: Still getting use to maternity clothes. I feel really bloated and the maternity clothes are nice and comfy. I do need to get some jeans, shorts and some work out pants. All in good time!
Sleep: Still love to sleep but I have been getting my energy back. I have been walking more and trying to work out to prevent any excess weight gain.
Best moment this week: In the office that I work as an RPA we have an ultrasound to use. I have one of the sonographers named Jenna scan me so I can take pictures and send them to family. This ultrasound should a profile of the tiny little face and the baby squirming. You could even see the arms and legs moving!! So precious! Made me cry!
Miss anything? Sushi! I miss the salmon nigiri, it was my favorite! Rick and I ate sushi on a weekly basis and it has been hard watching him enjoy it and I get to eat avocado rolls and rice balls!
Movement: Nothing yet.
Food cravings: This week was cheetos, the puffs! I just love them and they are so so bad for me…but they just at so good!
Anything making you queasy or sick? Nope not that I know of.
Gender: unknown, but I think its a boy.
Labor signs: None.
Symptoms: Still very bloated…can’t tell if I am showing a little bit or its just bloating?

The bump might be growing? Still too early to tell:)

10 weeks

How far along?  10 weeks!
Total weight gain/measurements: minus 6 lbs. I I have actually not gained weight which is typical in the first trimester. I chalk it up too not being able to drink a glass of wine/beer any longer. Which I admit was somewhat of a frequent thing. I really don’t miss it though! I’m hoping not to gain that much during this pregnancy! Currently I am a pescatarian but recently not very fond of even fish…
Maternity clothes: Just recently purchased a few maternity t-shirts, long skirt and a stripped dress. The dress is for my weekly bump pictures. Since my boobs have grown two sizes I had to invest in a few bras. So glad I did because they fit so much better and are way more comfortable.
Sleep: Yes Please! It seems like I can’t get enough of it. I am completely exhausted everyday. I will work 8 hours come home take an hour nap and then I will sleep 8-9 hours at night. Its hard work making a baby! 🙂
Best moment this week: When we found out that Rick was not a carrier for cystic fibrosis, even though I am. It is such a relief! Shopping in the maternity section was also fun!
Miss anything? My energy! When will it come back…I want to get back to the gym 3-4 days a week so I can be healthy and prevent any unnecessary weight gain.
Movement: Nothing yet.
Food cravings: Sweets! I have never been a sweet kind of person. For some reason I have really been craving ice cream, starbursts, rice krispie treats and skittles (tropical only).
Anything making you queasy or sick? Coffee and seafood.
Gender: unknown, but I think its a boy.
Labor signs: None.
Symptoms: I feel very bloated and gassy! Sorry Rick….. My boobs are really tender and I am tired all the time, where is my energy?!?!
Belly button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or moody most of the time: Both. Rick is dealing with it very well.
Looking forward to: Having my next ultrasound appointment. We will get to hear the heart beat again. Such a great sound!

Can’t wait for the bump to grow!!

9 weeks

This week was especially difficult for Rick and I. We had some blood work done at our OB/GYN office. Everything came back normal except my cystic fibrosis screening. It appears that I am a gene carrier for the disease. Which doesn’t necessarily mean that our baby will have it. However, if Rick would tests positive to being a carrier then our baby would have a 25% (1 in 4) chance the baby would have cystic fibrosis. After we got this news I was devastated to say the least. The next step was for Rick to get blood work done. The results would take a week to come back. It was  a very long week! I was extremely worried all week, of course you don’t want anything to happen to your baby. You don’t want your child to ever suffer but it definitely puts things in perspective.

BUT we got great news! Rick was NOT a carrier. So all that means is that our baby could be a possible carrier. And also that Rick can say he as better genes then me, lol!
